This policy explains what information Preqly collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. Because we work with connected financial data, that deserves plain language rather than a wall of clauses.

Information we collect

We collect personal, property, and financial information so we can run a pre-approval and issue a letter.

Information you submit on our forms

When you use the pre-approval form, a contact form, chat, or a partner account, you may give us:

  • Personal information: name, email address, and phone number
  • Property information: street address and ZIP code
  • Application information: stated annual income, purchase price or home value, down payment, loan purpose (purchase, refinance, or HELOC), and cash-out amount if you ask for cash out
  • Any other fields you fill in on those forms, plus messages you send us

Connected financial accounts

If you choose to connect a bank, we use Plaid, a third-party data aggregator. You log in with Plaid and your bank, not on a Preqly password form. We do not store your bank username or password.

Plaid lets us see, on a read-only basis, information from the accounts you select — typically account type, balances, and transaction history — so we can confirm income and assets for a pre-approval letter. The connection cannot move, withdraw, or transfer money.

You choose which accounts to link. After a letter is issued, you can disconnect the connection through Plaid / your bank. We keep application records as needed to provide the service and meet legal record-keeping duties; disconnecting stops new bank data from being pulled.

Plaid’s own terms and privacy policy also apply to the connection.

How we use information

We use the information we collect to operate the Preqly service, including:

  • Verifying income and assets from the details you submit and, if you connect a bank, from read-only account data
  • Issuing a pre-approval letter (a verified qualification, not a commitment to lend)
  • Communicating with you about your application by email and, if you consented on the form, by SMS — for example to confirm we received your application or that a bank was connected
  • Connecting you with a partner lender only if you ask to continue with a lending partner
  • Preventing fraud and abuse, and keeping the application and site secure
  • Improving the product, such as understanding how the site is used (including via Google Analytics) so we can fix problems and improve the flow

We do not use connected bank data to move money. We do not sell your financial information. We do not send your file to lenders you have not chosen.

When information is shared

We do not sell your financial data. We do not share your details with lenders you have not chosen.

We may share information only in these cases:

  • Service providers who help us run Preqly — for example Plaid (bank connection), hosting, email and SMS delivery, and analytics (Google Tag Manager / Google Analytics). They may use the data only to provide that service to us.
  • Partner lenders if you ask to continue with a lending partner. The lending relationship is with that lender, not with Preqly.
  • Legal and safety when we must disclose information to comply with law, a valid legal request, or to protect Preqly, our users, or others.
  • Business transfer if Preqly is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, with notice if the law requires it.

Plaid and other providers have their own privacy policies for data they process.

If you want to limit sharing or have a question about who has your information, contact us at [email protected].

How long we keep information

We keep information only as long as we need it to run the service, reissue a letter, answer your questions, prevent fraud, and meet legal record-keeping duties.

  • Application details (name, contact, property, stated income, loan purpose, and the letter we issued) — kept while your application is active and for a period afterward so we can support you and meet record-keeping rules.
  • Bank connection data — we pull read-only account information while the Plaid connection is active. If you disconnect, we stop pulling new bank data. We may still keep the application and letter that were already created.
  • Messages you send (contact form, chat, email/SMS) — kept as needed to handle that conversation and our records.
  • Analytics / device data — kept according to our analytics tools’ retention settings.

You may ask us to delete your data at [email protected]. We will delete or de-identify it unless we are required to keep it (for example for legal, security, or accounting reasons).

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live (including California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we have about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete information, subject to legal record-keeping exceptions
  • Receive a copy of the information you provided to us (data portability)
  • Opt out of sale or sharing of personal information for cross-context advertising

We do not sell your financial data. We do not share your file with lenders you have not chosen.

To make a request, email [email protected] with the email and phone number you used on the form, and say what you want (access, correction, deletion, copy, or opt-out). We may ask you to confirm you are the account holder before we act. We will respond within the time required by applicable law (typically up to 45 days, longer if the law allows).

You can also:

  • Stop SMS: reply STOP to our texts. Reply HELP for help.
  • Stop marketing email: use the unsubscribe link in the email, or email us.
  • Disconnect a bank: through Plaid or your bank, as described under Connected financial accounts.

If we deny a request, we will tell you why, where the law requires it. You will not be charged extra or given worse service for exercising these rights.

Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect the information we hold. That includes encryption in transit (HTTPS) and at rest, access controls so only people who need the data for their job can see it, and limiting bank access to a read-only Plaid connection that cannot move money.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee that unauthorized access will never occur.

If we become aware of a breach that requires notice under applicable law, we will notify affected people and regulators as the law requires, using the contact details we have (such as email).

You can help by keeping your email and device secure and by only connecting accounts on app.preqly.com

Cookies and tracking

This site uses cookies and similar tools so the pages work and so we can see how the site is used.

Types we use

  • Necessary — keep you logged in where needed, remember the apply flow, and protect the site (including Cloudflare security cookies).
  • Analytics — Google Tag Manager loads Google Analytics (G-NLKZKTSLL1) so we can see pages visited, including on preqly.com and app.preqly.com. Cross-domain links may include a _gl parameter so a visit from the marketing site to the form counts as one session.
  • We do not use these tools to serve third-party ads on the site today.

Your choices

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking necessary cookies may break the form. To ask us not to use your information for analytics or “sale/sharing” as those terms are used in some state laws, email [email protected].

We do not currently treat Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signals as an automatic opt-out. Use the email above or your browser cookie settings.

Cloudflare and Google have their own cookies when their services run. See Google’s analytics documentation and Cloudflare’s policy for those.

Children

The service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Pre-approval is meant for adults who can apply for a mortgage. If we learn we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it. Contact [email protected] if you believe a child has submitted information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The Last updated date at the top of this page will change when we do.

If a change is material (for example, new uses of your data or new sharing), we will post the updated policy on this page. We may also email you at the address you gave us, or show a notice on the site, when the law requires extra notice.

Continued use of Preqly after the updated date means you are using the service under the revised policy. If you do not agree, stop using the site and contact [email protected] to ask about your data.
